BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
Sgt. Mercer: For the record, please state your name.
Stacy Donne: Stacy Donne.
Sgt. Mercer: Alright. Before we begin, I need to let you know your parents are here.
Stacy Donne: I don’t want them here.
Sgt. Mercer: You don’t want either of them present?
Stacy Donne: I’m not going to say anything if she’s here.
Sgt. Mercer: “She” meaning your mother?
Stacy Donne: Yes.
Sgt. Mercer: Understood. We can continue without them in the room if you’re more comfortable.
[brief pause in recording]
Sgt. Mercer: I know this has probably been a stressful day. I just need to ask a few questions about Dr. Barry Raven.
Stacy Donne: Okay.
Sgt. Mercer: Your family was expecting him for dinner last night?
Stacy Donne: Yeah.
Sgt. Mercer: Was the dinner connected to your birthday?
Stacy Donne: Kind of.
Sgt. Mercer: How would you describe your relationship with Dr. Raven?
Stacy Donne: I don’t know. Weird.
Sgt. Mercer: Weird in what way?
Stacy Donne: I don’t understand why they keep inviting Raven to my birthday parties.
Sgt. Mercer: Your parents invited him often?
Stacy Donne: Too often.
Sgt. Mercer: Did that bother you?
Stacy Donne: Yeah.
Sgt. Mercer: Why?
Stacy Donne: Because he was always around.
Sgt. Mercer: I heard Dr. Raven worried about you. It seems he kept an eye on you.
Stacy Donne: Well, he should worry more about his own business.
Sgt. Mercer: Stacy, I’ve got to level with you. Your mom told us she thinks you’ve been spying on Dr. Raven. You’re not in trouble. I just need to know — when was the last time you actually saw him and where? You might’ve been the last one who saw him.
[pause]
Stacy Donne: I might’ve seen him leaving on his boat Wednesday.
Sgt. Mercer: This past Wednesday?
Stacy Donne: Yeah.
Sgt. Mercer: Where were you?
Stacy Donne: There was a family picnicking near the shore, and I hid behind the willows.
Sgt. Mercer: Why were you hiding?
Stacy Donne: I don’t know. I just was.
Sgt. Mercer: About what time was this?
Stacy Donne: The family was eating lunch, so probably around noon.
Sgt. Mercer: What exactly did you see?
Stacy Donne: Just him in his orange rainsuit. That was kind of weird.
Sgt. Mercer: Why was that weird?
Stacy Donne: Because it was hot.
Sgt. Mercer: How do you know it was Dr. Raven?
Stacy Donne: I knew it was him because he always throws candy at kids when he goes past on his boat.
Sgt. Mercer: He did that often?
Stacy Donne: Yeah.
Sgt. Mercer: And you saw him do this Wednesday?
Stacy Donne: He threw candy at some kid, but it landed in the middle of the water. What a weirdo.
Sgt. Mercer: Did you notice anyone else with him?
Stacy Donne: No. I couldn’t really tell.
Sgt. Mercer: Have you seen him since then?
Stacy Donne: No. Not since then.
Sgt. Mercer: Did Dr. Raven ever make you uncomfortable?
Stacy Donne: No. Not like that.
Sgt. Mercer: Then what did you mean earlier when you said he should “mind his own business”?
Stacy Donne: I just mean he acted like he was part of the family when he wasn’t.
Sgt. Mercer: Did your parents argue about him?
Stacy Donne: Sometimes.
Sgt. Mercer: Your mother and father?
Stacy Donne: Mostly my dad getting irritated.
Sgt. Mercer: Irritated with Dr. Raven?
Stacy Donne: I guess.
Sgt. Mercer: And when Dr. Raven didn’t show up last night?
Stacy Donne: Mom got weird about it immediately.
Sgt. Mercer: “Weird” how?
Stacy Donne: Like she really noticed it.
Sgt. Mercer: More than everyone else?
Stacy Donne: Yeah.
